Just
for a moment
By
Babette Johnson
I
looked up at a building today
And
beheld an incredible sight
As I
gazed
Stopped
to stare
I knew
it was God’s Heavenly light.
It was
a cloud of delicate hue
And
behind it was the sun
Streaks
of gold
With
fairy dust
Exquisite
rays beaming for everyone.
There
I stood a while longer
The
vision still more to brag
From a
perch
Atop a
pole
Gently
waved the American flag.
The
colors were just simply gorgeous
As the
sun shine brightly behind it
So
very warm
And
deeply rich
Awe
inspiring by the way it was lit.
Twas
an honor to see our wondrous flag
As
picture perfect as that
A
fabulous scene
Breathtaking
too
I
questioned where my camera was at.
For a
brief shining, memorable moment
The
thought had crossed my mind
Of
dear Veterans
No
longer here
Our Legends
are made of this kind.
If not
for those outstanding folks
And
their most courageous job
No
flag would wave
No
heroes to cheer
This
country would be one unruly mob.
These
are the precious life moments
To
which we all must hold very fast
Freedom
does cost
A
terrible price
And
without it we shall never last.
Go in
search of a Veteran this day
Whether
they be in dirt or in strife
Say a
prayer
And
shed a few tears
Because
each of us owes them our life!
This
is lovingly dedicate to the memory of Jerome Weston
Post
Script: I would like to say that although I can somewhat understand emotions
over the loss of JFK JR., his wife and her sister, I find it ironic which
people this country chooses to mourn for.
For
every JFK JR. that perishes there are two Bills who die from suicide; five
Tom’s who die from being exposed to the elements year round; ten Mikes who die
from one form of cancer or another and seventeen more Steve’s who are diagnosed
with Gulf War Illness.
These
people are our Veterans! Those who gave all!!
Now
I ask you….which is the REAL tragedy here?
